Ouimet Canyon Trail
City: OuimetLength: 1.0 kmRegion: Northwest Ontario
This trail leads to two platforms overlooking the steep Ouimet Canyon.
The canyon is so deep and cold that three species of Arctic plants flourish here. Walkways, viewing platforms and interpretive panels explain the unusual ecology.
Because of the fragility of its plant life, the bottom of the canyon is closed to visitors.
This sheer-walled canyon shelters rare Arctic-alpine plants along its boulder laden floor, where snow often persists until late spring.
From two platforms and a network of boardwalks and trails, view this spectacular gorge and feel the air rising from the depths.
